You’ve been thinking lately that your current facility for rehearsals, performances, classes, administration, storage, and any other number of uses may not be meeting organizational needs. Are dancers, faculty, students and audiences complaining about the quality, and perhaps even the safety, or your facilities? Have you considered how best to approach the steps needed to assess if and when your facility has or will hit its true capacity? This session will focus on the role of internal and external stakeholders in assessing your facility needs, establishing the right process to develop them, and engaging the right people at the right time to achieve the artistic, educational, and community service goals of your dance company in a fiscally responsible way. We’ll look at the roles that various architectural, cost consulting, and facility planning experts that can play in addressing this challenging issue, as well as how best to assess the overall capital, operating, and endowment funding needs in preparation to launch a capital campaign to support new or improved dance facilities for your organization. We’ll use case studies from the field and examples of best practices in facility and program planning, as well as addressing stakeholder engagement techniques that will achieve dramatic results.
