Artist’s Legacy Toolkit: a user-friendly resource adaptable for all career stages

  • Workshop

You can just start with a box, label it, then get another.  But eventually the records from creating and performing dance works can amass to what seems to be unmanageable.  What should you keep, how should you keep it and what can you throw out?  And what do you do when you aren’t making work any longer?  This session shares the Artist’s Legacy Toolkit, developed with funding from the NEA, which provides advice, approaches, and resources on documenting dance, organizing records (of teaching, performance, creative process), digitization and digital storage, trustworthy legal resources on copyright/fair use/and licenses, and succession and estate planning.  These materials are collected according to career stages, so that the early career individual artist or young company will have different (and sustainable!) support form the more complex needs of mature companies and their artistic directors.
